Toronto Police have made an arrest nearly a month after a violent assault left a victim with serious injuries in the city's west end. A 39-year-old man from Bradford, Ontario, is now facing multiple charges.
Details of the December Assault
Officers initially responded to a call from paramedics on December 21, 2025, at approximately 10 p.m. The incident occurred in the area of Lawrence Avenue West and Demarco Boulevard, east of Black Creek Drive.
According to police, the victim was outside when he was approached by two individuals. One of the suspects then assaulted him with a blunt object. Both suspects fled before police arrived, and the injured man was taken to hospital with what were described as serious injuries.
Investigation Leads to Single Suspect
In early January, investigators released images of two suspects believed to be involved. However, further investigation revealed that only one suspect was allegedly involved in the physical assault. Police credited the public's assistance following the news release with helping to identify the accused.
"Through investigation and assistance from the public following the previous news release, the accused was identified," police stated. "There are no outstanding suspects."
Gregmore Osakpa Osawe, 39, of Bradford, was arrested on Friday, January 16, 2026. He has been charged with assault, assault with a weapon, and aggravated assault.
Separate Stabbing Incident Downtown
In an unrelated case, Toronto Police also arrested one person following a stabbing in the downtown core on Saturday, January 17, 2026.
Officers responded to reports of an assault in the Yonge and College streets area. They located a man in his 30s who had been stabbed. The victim was transported to hospital by paramedics; the seriousness of his injury was not immediately known.
Police confirmed that a man, also in his 30s, was taken into custody. The investigation into this incident is ongoing.
