Calgary Man on Probation Charged with Drug Trafficking, Weapons Offences
Calgary Probationer Charged with Drug, Weapon Crimes

Calgary police have taken a significant quantity of drugs and firearms off the streets following the arrest of a local man who was allegedly violating his probation conditions by operating a high-volume drug trafficking operation.

Investigation Uncovers Stash of Drugs and Weapons

The case against 54-year-old Robert Cvitanovic began to unfold in the fall of 2025, when the Calgary Police Service (CPS) received information that a man on bail was not adhering to the terms of his release. This investigation tied back to a 2024 incident where Cvitanovic was initially charged after a probe into a stolen motorcycle led officers to a residence on the 6700 block of Temple Drive N.E. There, they discovered a cache of drugs, ammunition, and weapons.

Over the subsequent months, police gathered evidence indicating the accused was actively selling drugs from multiple locations. Investigators allege he used a Mercedes Benz in the East Village and a home in the community of Coventry Hills as bases for his operation.

Major Raid Nets Firearms and Fentanyl

The investigation culminated on January 12, 2026, when officers executed a search warrant at a home in the 100 block of Covington Rise N.E.. The search yielded a dangerous arsenal and a substantial drug supply.

Inside the property, police located and seized:

  • Five handguns, one of which was loaded and ready to fire.
  • Multiple imitation firearms.
  • A prohibited conductive energy weapon (similar to a Taser).
  • A crossbow with arrows and an archery air gun.
  • Approximately $40,000 worth of the deadly opioid Fentanyl.
  • Over $1,500 in cash, numerous cell phones, and drug paraphernalia.

A subsequent search of a detached garage and the Mercedes on the property led to the discovery of a stolen 2012 Ford F150 pickup truck, a mobility scooter believed to be stolen, a stolen license plate, and roughly $240 worth of Psilocybin (magic mushrooms).

Charges and Police Statement

Robert Cvitanovic now faces a lengthy list of criminal charges, including possession of an unauthorized firearm, two counts of failing to comply with probation, five counts of failing to comply with release orders, and possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.

Calgary Police Service Staff Sergeant Mike Sushelnitsky emphasized the seriousness of the offences, stating the accused was "disregarding the conditions of his release, while selling a high volume of drugs in downtown Calgary."

"This arrest means more guns and drugs are off the street and sends a message that this behaviour will not be tolerated," Sushelnitsky said.

Cvitanovic remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in court. Calgary police are asking anyone with additional information related to this incident to contact them at 403-266-1234 or to submit an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers.
