Hamilton Police are actively searching for a young man who escaped from custody early Thursday morning while still wearing handcuffs. The suspect, identified as 18-year-old Sultan Aldarwish, was initially arrested on an outstanding warrant related to a shoplifting incident.
Arrest and Escape
According to police, officers were conducting an investigation in the area of Main Street East and Grant Avenue in central Hamilton when they encountered Aldarwish. He was taken into custody on an outstanding arrest warrant for failing to comply with a release order stemming from previous shoplifting offences. Additionally, he was facing new charges for the same violation. During the arrest, Aldarwish was placed in handcuffs. However, he managed to flee from the officers. Police did not provide specific details on how he was able to escape while restrained.
Search Efforts
Following the escape, Hamilton Police mobilized numerous officers and a K9 unit to search the surrounding area. The last confirmed sighting of Aldarwish was near Barton Street East and Leeming Street. Suspect Description
Sultan Aldarwish is described as a Middle Eastern male, approximately 6 feet 1 inch tall and weighing around 170 pounds. He has brown eyes, long black curly hair, a small goatee, and a thin moustache. At the time of his escape, he was wearing a black Moose Knuckle jacket, black shorts, and black shoes.
