Windsor Police Arrest Impaired Driver After Woman Found Trapped Under SUV
Impaired driver arrested in Windsor after woman critically injured

Windsor police have made an arrest following a harrowing early morning incident over the weekend that left a woman fighting for her life after being found trapped beneath a vehicle.

Early Morning Rescue in Park Parking Lot

Officers were dispatched to the scene shortly after 4 a.m. on Sunday, December 29. The call was for an injured person in the parking lot of Remington Booster Park, located in the 2700 block of Lillian Avenue.

Upon arrival, first responders made a shocking discovery. They located a woman who was critically injured and trapped under the tire of a white Chevrolet Equinox. Emergency crews worked swiftly to free the woman from beneath the vehicle.

Life-saving care was administered at the scene before she was rushed to a local hospital. Police confirmed later on Sunday that the victim remained in critical condition with life-threatening injuries.

Driver Arrested for Impaired Operation

At the scene, officers spoke with the driver of the Equinox. Police reported detecting a strong odour of alcohol and other signs of impairment. The 28-year-old man was subsequently placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters.

At headquarters, the man failed a breath test. He now faces serious criminal charges, including:

  • Impaired operation of a conveyance causing bodily harm.
  • Impaired operation of a conveyance with a blood alcohol concentration exceeding the legal limit causing bodily harm.

In a related development, police also arrested a second 28-year-old man at the scene. He was taken into custody on an outstanding warrant for mischief under $5,000.

Major Crimes Unit Leads Investigation

Following the incident, the Windsor Police Service issued an 'active investigation' alert on social media, urging the public to avoid the park area. The scene was meticulously examined by the Windsor police traffic reconstruction unit.

The investigation is now being led by the department's Major Crimes unit. Authorities are appealing to the public for any information related to the case.
