A 21-year-old man is facing a series of criminal charges following a violent stabbing incident in Toronto's east end over the weekend. The victim sustained injuries that were not life-threatening.
Details of the Weekend Attack
Toronto Police reported that officers were called to the area of Broadview and Danforth Avenues at 4:09 p.m. on Saturday, January 10, 2026. According to investigators, the suspect approached an adult male and demanded a cigarette. When the victim refused the request, the suspect allegedly initiated a physical assault.
The victim attempted to leave the situation, but police say the suspect then produced a knife and stabbed him before fleeing the scene on foot. Emergency services transported the injured man to a local hospital for treatment of his wounds.
Arrest and Charges Filed
Police allege that shortly after the assault, the same suspect entered a store in the vicinity, selected several items, and left without paying. Officers later located and arrested the individual.
The accused has been identified as Lamarana Diallo, 21, of no fixed address. He has been charged with the following offences:
- Assault
- Assault with a weapon
- Assault causing bodily harm
- Possession of a weapon
- Theft under $5,000
- Six counts of fail to comply with probation
Authorities confirmed that the victim and the accused were not known to each other prior to the encounter.
Separate Bear Spray Incident in Kitchener
In an unrelated case, Waterloo Regional Police charged a 16-year-old male following a bear spray incident at Fairview Park Mall in Kitchener. Police responded to the mall at approximately 7:45 p.m. on Friday, January 9, 2026.
The victims did not sustain life-threatening injuries and did not require hospital transport. Police did not specify the number of people affected. As a safety precaution, the mall was evacuated and remained closed for the rest of that evening.
The youth, whose identity is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, faces charges of administering a noxious substance, carrying a concealed weapon, assault with a weapon, and possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace.
