Man gets 7.5-year sentence in Regina fentanyl case

A 20-year-old man has been sentenced to seven and a half years in prison for his role in a major fentanyl bust in Regina, marking a significant development in a case that involved substantial quantities of illicit drugs.

Sentencing in Regina Court

Manav Manav, 20, pleaded guilty on Monday in Regina's Court of King's Bench to possessing fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking. Justice Lana Krogan handed down the 7.5-year prison sentence, though Manav received credit for time already served while on remand. After this credit was applied, he faces just under five years and four months remaining on his sentence.

In addition to the prison term, Justice Krogan ordered that Manav be subject to a 10-year weapons prohibition following his release from custody. The judge also mandated that he provide a DNA sample for forensic purposes.

The Regina Drug Investigation

The case stems from a police investigation into drug trafficking in Regina that culminated on May 30, 2024. According to police reports, the Regina Drug Unit and Regina Police Service SWAT team conducted enforcement actions against several suspects.

Early that afternoon, officers arrested three people. Two suspects were found in an area where police discovered what they described as significant quantities of substances believed to be illegal drugs.

Substantial Drug Seizures

During searches conducted as part of the operation, police reported finding multi-kilogram amounts of substances suspected to be cocaine, methamphetamine and fentanyl, along with thousands of dollars in cash at one location.

At a second location, investigators seized what they characterized as lesser but still significant amounts of the same suspected substances, plus additional cash. The Regina Police Service had previously released images showing cash and packaged substances connected to this drug bust.

The matters involving the other two individuals charged in connection with this significant drug bust remain before the courts. Due to a publication ban ordered by Justice Krogan, specific information about the case and the offender that was relayed in court during sentencing has been withheld from public reporting.
