A second individual charged in a major Regina drug bust has been sentenced to seven-and-a-half years in prison, marking another conviction in a significant law enforcement operation targeting fentanyl trafficking in the city.

In the Court of King's Bench on Thursday, a 22-year-old man named Manav pleaded guilty to possession of fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking. The court accepted a joint sentencing recommendation from both the Crown prosecutor and defense counsel, resulting in the 7.5-year prison term.
Following credit for time already served in remand, Manav will serve approximately four years and eight months of his sentence. The Crown stayed additional charges against him related to the same drug bust investigation.
Identification Challenges in Court
Due to naming conventions from his home country, Manav has only one name, which created identification challenges in court proceedings. He is actually the second individual with that name to be sentenced in this case.
The first Manav, born in 2005, pleaded guilty and received an identical 7.5-year sentence in November. The man sentenced Thursday was born in 2003, making him the older of the two defendants with the same name.

The convictions stem from a coordinated police operation on May 30, 2024, when the Regina Drug Unit and Regina Police Service SWAT team conducted enforcement actions against several suspects involved in drug trafficking activities.
