Toronto Man Faces Multiple Charges in Alleged Break-In Spree
A 59-year-old Toronto man, Mark Hardy, is wanted by police in connection with a series of break-ins that occurred across the city over a four-month period. Authorities have linked Hardy to five separate incidents, with the first reported on January 15, 2026, and the most recent on April 18, 2026.
Details of the Alleged Incidents
According to Toronto Police, the incidents span various neighborhoods, starting with an apartment building in the Cosburn-Pape Avenues area on January 15 at approximately 5:30 a.m. In this case, the suspect allegedly forced entry into the building and multiple storage lockers, stealing numerous personal items before fleeing.
Other reported incidents include:
- On January 15 at about 11:05 p.m., a residence in the Avenue Road-St. Clair Avenue West area was allegedly broken into, with the suspect rummaging around but fleeing after being spotted by the victim, resulting in no theft.
- On January 25 at around 2:15 a.m., an apartment building in the Broadview-Danforth Avenues area was entered, where the suspect allegedly rummaged through a unit. The victim, who was sleeping, woke up and yelled, causing the suspect to flee after stealing personal items.
- On March 13 at about 11 a.m., another apartment building in the Adelaide Street East-George Street area was targeted, with the suspect gaining access to two units, stealing money and personal items before escaping.
- On April 18 at approximately 2:15 a.m., an apartment building in the King Street East-Princess Street area was broken into, with the suspect forcing entry into a unit. The victim awoke, and the suspect fled without taking anything.
Charges and Suspect Description
Mark Hardy is wanted on 18 counts of break and enter, along with additional charges including two counts of theft under $5,000, four counts of possession of break-in instruments, and five counts of disguise with intent. Police describe him as 5-foot-10, 200 pounds, with a medium build, bald head, clean-shaven face, and green eyes.
Separate Sexual Assault Warning
In an unrelated case, Toronto Police are warning the public about a sexual assault that occurred in downtown Toronto on Sunday, April 14, 2026, at around 6:45 a.m. in the Church Street-The Esplanade area. The suspect, described as a Black man aged 25 to 30, approximately 5-foot-10 with a thin build, approached the victim from behind and forced them to an isolated area before sexually assaulting them. Passersby intervened, and the suspect fled.
The suspect was wearing a green or grey jacket, a grey hooded sweater, dark baggy pants, dark Nike shoes, and a black Lacoste backpack with white lettering and a green alligator logo.
