Two Men Face Multiple Charges Following Alleged Arson Incident in Bridlewood
Calgary Police have made significant progress in an arson investigation that unfolded in the Bridlewood neighborhood earlier this spring. Two individuals now face serious criminal charges following an incident where a detached garage was deliberately set on fire and an attempt was made to ignite the adjacent home.
Details of the Alleged Arson
The investigation began when police responded to emergency calls in the early morning hours of Wednesday, April 1. At approximately 3 a.m., authorities were dispatched to the 100 block of Bridlewood Avenue S.W. following reports of a fire involving a detached garage at a residential property.
Members of Calgary's specialized arson unit conducted a thorough examination of the scene and determined that two individuals had entered the backyard of the residence. According to police findings, these individuals deliberately set fire to the garage and attempted to extend the blaze to the home itself before fleeing the scene in a waiting vehicle.
Arrest and Charges
Following extensive investigation, police identified and arrested one suspect who was found in possession of the vehicle used in the alleged crime. Further examination revealed that this vehicle had been reported stolen, adding to the severity of the charges.
The primary suspect, identified as 49-year-old Michael Keith Caseley, now faces six serious charges including:
- Arson with disregard for human life
- Possession of controlled substances
- Possession of stolen property valued over $5,000
- Possession of stolen property valued under $5,000
- Driving while disqualified
- Multiple traffic offenses
Police have indicated that additional charges are forthcoming following the examination of a firearm discovered in the vehicle at the time of arrest. Caseley is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday, April 22, to face these allegations.
