Windsor police have released a photograph of a vehicle they believe was involved in a fatal pedestrian collision earlier this week, as investigators intensify efforts to identify the driver responsible.
Vehicle Description and Incident Details
Members of the Major Crimes Unit have identified the vehicle as a dark-colored SUV equipped with a rear-window spoiler or wing. According to police reports, the SUV was traveling eastbound on Tecumseh Road East at the time of the tragic incident.
Timeline of the Fatal Collision
The fatal collision occurred on April 15 at approximately 10 p.m. in the 1600 block of Tecumseh Road East. A 65-year-old woman was crossing the street mid-block when she was struck by the eastbound SUV. The force of the initial impact was so severe that it threw her into the opposing lane, where she was subsequently struck by a second vehicle.
Police confirmed that the driver of the first vehicle remained at the scene following the collision. However, the driver of the second vehicle failed to remain and has not yet been identified by authorities.
Police Appeal for Information
Investigators are now urgently appealing to the driver of the SUV to come forward and speak with detectives. "We are urging anyone with information about this vehicle or the collision to contact us immediately," stated a police spokesperson.
The Windsor Police Service Major Crimes Unit continues to seek any information that might help identify the second driver involved in this tragic incident.
