Altercation Leads to Critical Fall in East-End Montreal
A 31-year-old Montreal man is in police custody following a disturbing incident Thursday morning that left a woman in her 30s fighting for her life. According to the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM), the woman was allegedly pushed from a third-storey balcony in the Mercier-Hochelaga-Maisonneuve borough.
The violent altercation occurred around 8:15 a.m. on January 1, 2026, at an apartment building on Ste-Catherine Street East near Jeanne-d'Arc Avenue. Police stated that neighbours witnessed the man push the woman off the balcony following a dispute.
Victim Rushed to Hospital in Critical Condition
Officers arriving at the scene found the woman unconscious on the sidewalk below. Paramedics rushed her to a local hospital, where she remains in critical condition. Authorities have indicated they fear for her life.
