Mayor Bronconnier, who had white-hatted numerous dignitaries including presidents and royalty, presented the infant with a special tiny white toque embroidered with "Calgary 1,000,000." Now 19 years old, Dash Waite finds it curious to have received such attention simply for being born. "It's a curious thing to get so much publicity for being born and doing nothing to warrant it," he said. "I don't think pride's the way to put it, but it does feel a little bit special."
Despite the historic significance, Waite says the distinction had minimal impact on his childhood. "It was sort of a fun bit of trivia that I could pull out. It wasn't really a big deal," he noted. His mother, Jessica Waite, preserved newspapers and the tiny toque from that day, keeping the memory alive as a family anecdote.

Waite's unique status has led to occasional recognitions in unexpected settings. He has been identified by name during job interviews and in casual encounters at places like the mall or skate park. His mother, Jessica, recalled the surprise of the event. She had heard that the first baby born on July 25 would be declared the one-millionth Calgarian but didn't expect it to be her son, who arrived at 12:08 a.m. The family anticipated a simple celebration but was astonished by the media presence. "I was very surprised and startled by the amount of flashbulbs and microphones going into our faces," she said, though she appreciated the ceremony's warmth.
