Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are investigating a shed fire and a restaurant break-in in Elora that they believe are connected. The incidents occurred early Saturday morning in the Wellington County community.
Details of the incidents
According to OPP, officers responded to a structure fire at a shed on Geddes Street around 2:30 a.m. The fire was extinguished by local firefighters, and no injuries were reported. Shortly after, police received a report of a break-in at a nearby restaurant on Metcalfe Street. The suspects forced entry and stole an undisclosed amount of cash.
Police say the proximity and timing of the two events suggest they are linked. "We believe the same individuals may be responsible for both incidents," said OPP Constable Mark Hicks in a statement. "We are asking anyone with information to come forward."
Investigation and public appeal
The OPP is reviewing surveillance footage from the area and conducting witness interviews. No arrests have been made. The estimated damage from the shed fire is approximately $50,000, according to fire officials. The restaurant break-in resulted in minor property damage and the loss of cash.
