A Gatineau police officer has been arrested following an internal investigation, the Service de police de la Ville de Gatineau (SPVG) announced Wednesday.
Arrest Details
The officer, whose identity has not been released, was taken into custody Tuesday evening. The SPVG said in a statement that the arrest stems from an internal investigation, but did not provide specifics on the allegations.
The officer has been suspended with pay pending the outcome of the judicial process. The SPVG said it would not comment further to protect the integrity of the investigation and the officer's rights.
Ongoing Investigation
The case has been turned over to the Quebec police watchdog, the Bureau des enquêtes indépendantes (BEI), which will oversee the investigation. The BEI investigates all cases involving police officers in Quebec where death or serious injury occurs, or where there are allegations of criminal offenses.
No further details have been released by the SPVG or the BEI.
