Man charged with assault on police, security at Escapade

A 44-year-old Ottawa man has been charged with multiple offences after allegedly assaulting three Ottawa police officers and two security guards at the 2026 Escapade Music Festival on Friday night.

Incident Details

The confrontation occurred at around 9:45 p.m. Friday, according to an email from Ottawa police to the Ottawa Citizen on Saturday. The suspect was allegedly intoxicated at the time of the incident.

Police did not release the identity of the accused.

Injuries Sustained

“One officer suffered a concussion, one needed stitches to their hand,” the Ottawa Police Service wrote in their email. “Two of the officers attended the hospital for injuries,” Ottawa police added on social media Saturday afternoon.

The officers are expected to make a full recovery from their injuries, police said.

Charges Laid

The suspect was charged with six counts: assault of a peace officer, assault of a peace officer causing bodily harm, resisting arrest, two additional counts of assault, and causing disturbance.

Police Statement

“Officers will continue to take a zero-tolerance approach to disorderly behaviour or criminal activity that can negatively impact residents, visitors and businesses,” police said Saturday.
