Police Close In on Suspect Jordan Sangwin in Mississauga Murders

Peel Regional Police nearly captured Jordan Sangwin, the suspect in the double murder of his parents, in south Etobicoke on Friday evening, but the fugitive managed to evade arrest, prolonging a manhunt that has lasted 10 days.

Confirmed Sighting Triggers Police Response

Police reported a confirmed sighting of Sangwin around 6 p.m. on June 26 in the area of Lake Shore Blvd. W. and Yachters Ln., west of Park Lawn Rd. A new, clearer picture taken June 21 led a member of the public to spot him and call authorities.

According to Peel Regional Police, “there was a confirmed sighting of Jordan Sangwin, in the area of Lake Shore Blvd. W. and Yachters Ln. – west of Park Lawn Rd. – around 6 p.m.” With assistance from Toronto Police, officers moved in on the suspect, who is wanted for two counts of first-degree murder in the alleged blunt force trauma deaths of his parents, Carol Sangwin, 70, and Garwood Sangwin, 71, in their Mississauga home on June 18.

Suspect Elusive Despite Multiple Sightings

“He was able to run away,” one police source said. Sangwin, who has been spotted several times in the Humber Bay and High Park area, appears to know how to change his appearance and location. In a recent photo, he appeared happy and healthy, with cuts noticeable on his hand and leg.

Police described him as “last seen wearing a green hoodie, red T-shirt underneath, shorts and carrying a black duffel bag.” He is considered armed and dangerous. The manhunt has been challenging, with Sangwin using wooded areas to evade capture.

Funeral Held for Victims as Manhunt Continues

Meanwhile, the funeral for Carol and Garwood Sangwin was scheduled for Saturday. An online obituary described Carol as “a reader in the truest sense” who “found beauty in the details of life” and was an avid gardener. Garwood was remembered as “Port Credit’s town carpenter” whose “work is scattered across the place he loved, quiet and lasting.”

Both obituaries mention the couple’s “final day” was shared with each other, and while their other children are named, their son Jordan’s name is noticeably absent.

Police Urge Public Caution

Police continue to urge the public to stay clear of Sangwin if they see him. “He is considered armed and dangerous,” police said. They also advise Sangwin to surrender peacefully and go to a hospital to ensure no one else is hurt. The suspect has been on the run for 10 days, and authorities believe he may be tired, hungry, and running out of options.
