Peel Regional Police have successfully located a young child who was found wandering unattended in a Mississauga neighbourhood on Tuesday, January 13, 2026. Authorities are now working to confirm the child's well-being and speak with the parents or guardians.
Child Found in Live Traffic Lane
The concerning incident began when police received reports around 1:00 p.m. about a child left alone in the area of Creditview Road and Eglinton Avenue West in the East Credit community. Upon initial response, officers were unable to locate the child.
Police later issued a public alert, releasing an image that appeared to show a toddler walking in the middle of a residential street. Constable Taylor Halfyard told CP24 that the situation was "obviously concerning," noting the child was seen in a "live lane of traffic."
Public Assistance Leads to Safe Location
In an update posted on social media at approximately 9:30 p.m., Peel Police confirmed the positive outcome: "The child has been located. Thank you to the public and media for their assistance."
The police investigation continues as authorities work to understand the full circumstances that led to the child being unattended. The incident was filed under report number PR260016007.
Separate Break-in Investigations in Toronto's East End
In a separate police matter, Toronto Police are seeking two male suspects following early morning break-ins at businesses in the Beaches area on the same Tuesday.
Officers responded to a call at about 2:30 a.m. in the Queen Street East and Beech Avenue area. Police said two men broke into a restaurant, stealing cash and property. One of the suspects then allegedly broke into another nearby business.
The first suspect is described as 20-30 years old, last seen wearing a green jacket, black hooded sweater, black tuque, black pants, and red and white Nike shoes, and carrying a black duffel bag.
The second suspect is also 20-30, wearing a white jacket, grey pants, black gloves, a black and white bandana, black tuque, and dark shoes with white soles, while carrying a green shopping bag.
