Police say the incident began when officers attempted to arrest a man wanted on outstanding warrants. The suspect allegedly rammed a police cruiser with his vehicle before fleeing on foot and entering the Saint John River.

Officers deployed a drone and a boat to locate the man, who was found in the water. He was taken into custody without further incident.

Charges and Aftermath

The man is facing multiple charges, including assault with a weapon, dangerous driving, and failing to stop for police. He was taken to hospital for assessment before being released into police custody.

No officers were injured in the incident. The police cruiser sustained damage but remains operational.

“We are grateful that no one was hurt and that this situation was resolved peacefully,” said Woodstock Police Chief Gary Forward in a statement. “Our officers showed great restraint and professionalism.”

The suspect was wanted on several warrants related to property crimes and previous failure to appear in court. Police did not release his name pending a court appearance.
