Dramatic Bodycam Footage Captures Family Rescue from Burning Home
Newly released body camera footage from the Village of Mamaroneck Police Department shows emergency personnel executing a dramatic rescue of a family trapped in a flame-engulfed home in New York state. The incident occurred on Lester Avenue on February 16, 2026, just after 5 p.m., when police and firefighters responded to a structural fire that was spreading rapidly.
Trapped Family on Second Floor
Upon arrival, emergency personnel discovered that a family of four was trapped on the second floor of the home. While firefighters worked to contain the blaze, police officers quickly assessed the situation and determined that immediate action was required to save the occupants. The bodycam video vividly captures the intensity of the rescue operation, with smoke and flames billowing from the building.
"Give me the baby," one officer can be heard saying repeatedly as he climbed a ladder to reach the second floor. In the background, the cries of a baby are audible, adding to the urgency of the scene. The officer successfully retrieved the infant, reassuring the child with, "I gotcha. I gotcha baby," before climbing down to safety.
Rescue of Additional Occupants
After handing the baby to another officer, the rescuer climbed back up the ladder to save another child, who was screaming for their mother.
