Toronto police have charged a man in connection with an alleged unprovoked assault and robbery that occurred in the city's east end earlier this month. The incident, which took place on June 10, 2026, involved the suspect attacking a victim without provocation and stealing their property, according to authorities.
Details of the Attack
Police responded to a call in the area of Danforth Avenue and Main Street around 9:30 p.m. on June 10. The victim, a 34-year-old man, was walking alone when he was approached by the suspect. The suspect allegedly struck the victim with a blunt object, causing injuries, and then stole personal items before fleeing the scene. The victim was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Investigators reviewed surveillance footage and identified the suspect as 28-year-old Michael Tran of Toronto. On June 20, Tran was arrested without incident at his residence. He has been charged with robbery, assault with a weapon, and possession of property obtained by crime.
Police Statement
Detective Sergeant Sarah Jenkins of the Toronto Police Service's 55 Division stated, "This was a completely unprovoked attack that left the victim shaken and injured. We are relieved to have made an arrest and hope this brings some sense of security to the community." She added that the investigation is ongoing and urged anyone with additional information to come forward.
Court Appearance
Tran appeared in a Toronto courtroom on June 21 and was remanded into custody pending a bail hearing scheduled for June 25. The charges have not been proven in court.
Community Impact
Residents in the Danforth-Main area expressed concern following the incident. Local community safety advocate Linda Morrison said, "This type of random violence is alarming. We need more patrols and community engagement to prevent such incidents." Police have increased patrols in the area as a precaution.
