In today's letters, readers express strong opinions on the Toronto Blue Jays, FIFA's ticket pricing, and judicial appointments made by former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
Blue Jays: Shape Up or Ship Out
One reader, William Edworthy of Calgary, writes: "When are the Blue Jays going to admit that Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is a bust? He'll never lead them to a championship. His attitude stinks! I don't care about his numbers, just his lack of character. He has now selfishly added reviews that don't stand a chance of succeeding to his repertoire. Sit him down or ship him out if he won't buy in. A dugout clown and/or ice bucket author can easily be replaced. His lack of hustle is cancerous and only going to further harm the nice group of youngsters that the Jays have."
The editor responds: "Don't write him off … there is a lot of ball yet to play."
FIFA's Cost of Admission
Peter J. Middlemore Sr. of Windsor writes: "I just can't believe that FIFA and soccer matches have been allowed to basically abuse loyal soccer fans. Greed has taken over the sport, whose design allows for a poor nation's citizens to play, needing just a blown-up ball plus a goal. Many soccer players learned their skills on the streets or on vacant lots, but sadly the sport has forgotten their beginnings and today is making millions while forgetting those poorer fans who are unable to afford FIFA's outrageous ticket prices."
The editor notes: "Like the Olympics, it's big business for FIFA. But what should also be questioned are the host nations willing to accept only FIFA's terms."
Judgment Call on Judicial Appointments
Dennis Tschirhart of Simcoe, Ont., comments on Brad Hunter's column "They're so judge-mental" (June 8): "I was flabbergasted to learn that, while in office, our former prime minister Justin Trudeau appointed more than 800 judges. I would suggest it would be more than a little naive to think that a healthy number of these judges did not hold like-minded views on justice with Trudeau and the Liberal Party. Woke in, woke out!"
The editor adds: "The Liberals are the most hyper partisan when it comes to their appointments, not only for judges."
