Arjun Nimmala's tenure with the Vancouver Canadians at Nat Bailey Stadium has come to an end. The Toronto Blue Jays promoted the power-hitting shortstop to the double-A New Hampshire Fisher Cats following the Canadians' 8-7 victory over the Hillsboro Hops on Saturday.
Nimmala's Performance
The 20-year-old Nimmala, ranked as Toronto's No. 3 prospect by MLB Pipeline, had been on a tear recently. Over his last 12 games with Vancouver, he batted .318 (14-for-44) with six doubles, two home runs, and 11 RBIs. Notably, on Tuesday, he hit a mammoth 437-foot home run to left-center field, the longest at Nat Bailey Stadium since 2022.
Season Stats
In 23 games this season with the Canadians, Nimmala posted a .241 batting average with four home runs and 20 RBIs. Last year, he spent the entire season with Vancouver, hitting .224 with 13 homers and 61 RBIs in 120 games. Despite his youth, he was among the youngest players in the Northwest League, where the average hitter age is 22.
Other Promotions
Reports indicate that Toronto also promoted right-hander Austin Cates, 22, from Vancouver to New Hampshire. Cates had a 1-2 record with a 3.38 ERA in five appearances for the Canadians. A 2024 seventh-round pick, he adds depth to the Fisher Cats' pitching staff.
Reinforcements for Vancouver
The Canadians are receiving pitching reinforcements from Dunedin. Right-hander Nolan Perry, 22, has been promoted to Vancouver. Perry posted a 1.71 ERA with 32 strikeouts and only six walks in 21 innings over five appearances with the single-A Dunedin Blue Jays. A 2022 12th-round pick, he is expected to bolster the pitching staff.
Team Outlook
The Canadians entered Sunday with an 11-15 record. They begin a six-game road trip against the first-place Eugene Emeralds on Tuesday. Their next homestand starts May 12 against the Everett AquaSox.
