Tomas Hertl scored the go-ahead goal with 2:30 remaining in the third period, lifting the Vegas Golden Knights to a 5-4 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final on Tuesday night in Raleigh, N.C.

The Golden Knights rallied from a 4-3 deficit in the third period. Jonathan Marchessault tied the game at 4-4 with a power-play goal at 11:23 of the final frame before Hertl netted the winner. Vegas goaltender Adin Hill made 28 saves in the win.
Carolina opened the scoring with two quick goals in the first period. Sebastian Aho and Teuvo Teravainen each scored to give the Hurricanes a 2-0 lead. The Golden Knights responded with three straight goals, including a pair from Mark Stone and one from Chandler Stephenson, to take a 3-2 lead into the second period.
The Hurricanes regained the lead in the second period on goals by Seth Jarvis and Brent Burns, making it 4-3 heading into the third. However, Vegas dominated the final frame, outshooting Carolina 15-6, to secure the comeback victory.

Stone finished with two goals and an assist for the Golden Knights. Stephenson added a goal and two assists. For the Hurricanes, Aho recorded a goal and two assists, while Teravainen had a goal and an assist. Carolina goaltender Frederik Andersen stopped 27 shots in the losing effort.
Series Outlook
Game 2 is scheduled for Thursday night in Raleigh before the series shifts to Las Vegas for Games 3 and 4. The Golden Knights are seeking their second Stanley Cup title in franchise history, while the Hurricanes are aiming for their first championship since 2006.
