Ottawa defenseman David Bedkowski, a crucial acquisition at the trade deadline, received a match penalty for spearing following an incident at the conclusion of the second period. Aitcheson remained on the ice in apparent distress while officials assessed Bedkowski a major penalty. Barrie forward Mason Zebeski emphasized the importance of the extended power play opportunity during a second intermission interview, stating, "This is huge. It's one they can't really kill off with a goal. The more we score, the more we kind of shove it down their throats."
Barrie's NHL Prospects Dominate Offensive Play
The Colts' three NHL first-round draft selections demonstrated their elite talent throughout the contest. Kanata native Cole Beaudoin (Utah Mammoth) and Emil Hemming (Dallas Stars) combined on an odd-man rush that Zebeski converted just 33 seconds into the game.
Aitcheson, a New York Islanders first-round selection, extended Barrie's lead to 2-0 with a power-play goal less than five minutes later. Both Aitcheson and Hemming finished the game with one goal and two assists each, while Beaudoin contributed three assists.
