The Toronto Raptors franchise has officially inaugurated a cutting-edge practice facility dedicated to its NBA G League affiliate, Raptors 905, located in Mississauga. This significant development marks a major investment in basketball infrastructure within the Greater Toronto Area.
Facility Specifications and Features
The newly opened facility spans an impressive 16,000 square feet and is situated at the Paramount Fine Foods Centre. It represents a substantial upgrade for the team, boasting a full-size NBA regulation basketball court equipped with four baskets. This distinction makes Raptors 905 the first G League team to possess an exclusive court built to NBA standards.
Beyond the court, the facility includes comprehensively renovated locker rooms featuring state-of-the-art amenities. A large, dedicated fitness and training area provides athletes with top-tier equipment for physical conditioning. An extensive medical and rehabilitation wing ensures player health and recovery are prioritized. Additionally, the complex houses a dining room and a comfortable player lounge, creating a holistic environment for athlete development.
Grand Opening and Official Statements
The grand opening ceremony on Saturday was attended by prominent figures including Mississauga Mayor Carolyn Parrish, NBA G League President Shareef Abdur-Rahim, Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment Chief Operating Officer Nick Eaves, and Raptors 905 Vice President Courtney Charles.
In an official release, Courtney Charles emphasized the broader vision behind the project. "Today is about more than opening a new facility; it’s about investing in the continued growth of basketball in the 905 and across Canada," Charles stated. "This project reflects the strength of our partnership with the City of Mississauga and our shared commitment to creating opportunities for players, coaches and the next generation of athletes to develop at the highest level."
Charles extended gratitude to MLSE ownership, partners, and the community for supporting the vision that made the facility a reality.
Historical Context and Community Impact
Raptors 905 commenced play in the 2015-16 season in Mississauga and secured a league championship the following year, with Pascal Siakam earning Finals MVP honors. The team has also seen players like Chris Boucher achieve G League MVP status. The new practice space proudly displays banners with the motto "The Road to the 6 starts here," acknowledging players who refined their skills with the 905 before advancing to the Toronto Raptors.
NBA G League President Shareef Abdur-Rahim highlighted the facility's role in development and community connection. "This world-class facility reflects the NBA G League and the Raptors 905’s shared commitment to developing players, coaches, and staff," Abdur-Rahim said. "Investments like this strengthen the G League as a platform for growth and innovation, while also allowing the 905 to deepen its connection to the Mississauga community through basketball clinics and by opening the facility for events during the offseason."
Shared Amenity and Future Programs
The facility will operate as a shared resource between MLSE and the City of Mississauga. It is designed to host basketball development camps and accommodate various community groups. A clinic held on the opening day engaged over 50 youth participants from organizations including the Erin Mills Youth Centre, the Mississauga Monarchs, and PDM Basketball.
Mississauga Mayor Carolyn Parrish praised the collaborative effort. "Mississauga is a place that produces great players and coaches and is home to top-tier sport venues. Our long-standing partnership with Raptors 905 and Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment allows us to continue to elevate the caliber of sport in Mississauga," Parrish remarked. "This new gym is a big win for us and will benefit both Raptors 905 as their new practice facility while also offering access for residents."
This new facility complements the Raptors' existing practice center at Exhibition Place in Toronto, which opened in 2016 as the BioSteel Centre and was later rebranded to the OVO Centre in 2019. The Mississauga location now stands as a dedicated hub for G League operations and community basketball development in the region.
