Staal's Historic Streak Leads Hurricanes to Game 5 Win

Jordan Staal scored for his fifth consecutive game, tying an NHL record, as the Carolina Hurricanes defeated the Vegas Golden Knights 4-2 on Thursday at Lenovo Center to take a 3-2 lead in the Stanley Cup Final. Game 6 is set for Sunday at 8 p.m. ET in Las Vegas.

Staal's Historic Streak

Staal tied the NHL record for the longest goal streak in a Cup Final, becoming the first player in over 50 years to achieve the feat. His sixth goal of the series came midway through the first period, tying the game at 1-1. The Carolina captain had only two goals in the first three rounds of the playoffs.

With the goal, Staal surged ahead of Vegas forward Mitch Marner as the leading candidate for the Conn Smythe Trophy on various sports betting sites.
