Mya Jones aims to end Wild FC's winless streak vs Tides

Calgary Wild FC midfielder Mya Jones is confident she can end the team's scoring woes as they host the Halifax Tides on Saturday at McMahon Stadium. 'I really think I can make a really big impact,' said Jones, who is recovering from a broken foot and eager to represent her hometown.

Return from Injury

Jones, 24, signed with Wild FC ahead of the 2026 Northern Super League season after suffering a broken navicular bone in her right foot during a San Diego Wave practice in 2024. The injury required surgery last August and an eight-month recovery period. 'It's like one of the two bones in your body that basically has no blood supply, so oftentimes when people break it, they never return to sport,' Jones explained. She played 83 minutes in last weekend's 1-1 draw with Montreal Roses FC, her most playing time in two years.

Team Struggles

Wild FC is winless this season with a 0-5-2 record and just two points, sitting last in the NSL standings. The team has faced coaching changes, injuries, and adverse weather. 'We’ve experienced a lot of adversity this year — just with coaching changes and weather and things that are really just beyond our control, like a lot of injuries, too,' Jones said. The club lost its original head coach weeks before the season started.

Upcoming Match

Saturday's game against the Halifax Tides (3-3-2, 11 points) offers a chance for Wild FC to climb out of last place. AFC Toronto sits just above them with nine points. Jones is optimistic: 'I think any point is momentum. Travelling is really difficult, so even getting results from a travelling away trip is a win, in my opinion. For us in that last game, we probably had the healthiest roster we’ve had so far, and it showed in the way we played.'

Homecoming and Commitment

Jones, a Calgary native, emphasized the importance of returning home. 'I think there were a lot of pieces for me in coming home. The biggest one was being able to represent my hometown after coming back from such a serious injury and having that support behind me,' she said. She also expressed faith in the club's leadership: 'I really trust in the leadership that this group has and our CEOs provide, and I really trust what their vision is for the future. I’m committed to the long-term project here.'
