A farmer in Vermont got a surprise far beyond expectations when his ewe, expected to deliver twins, gave birth to sextuplets instead. The rare event occurred at Clover and Bee Farm in Underhill, Vermont, on April 9, 2026.
An Unexpected Arrival
Anne O'Connor, co-owner of the farm, said the ewe had been scanned and was thought to be carrying two lambs. However, she ended up delivering six healthy lambs, a phenomenon that is extremely rare in sheep. Sextuplet births in sheep are uncommon, and the survival rate for such large litters is often low, but all six lambs are doing well.
Care for the Lambs
O'Connor noted that the lambs are being bottle-fed and monitored closely to ensure they receive enough nutrition. The mother ewe is also recovering well. The farm has received support from the local community and veterinary experts to help care for the unexpected arrivals.
The sextuplets have brought joy and attention to the small farm, highlighting the wonders of animal husbandry. The lambs are expected to be weaned and eventually join the rest of the flock.
