Meghan and Children Skip Invictus Games, Harry Attends Alone

The Duchess of Sussex and the couple's two children will not accompany Prince Harry to the Invictus Games, a spokesperson for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex confirmed Thursday. Harry is set to attend the multi-sport event for wounded veterans alone, marking a rare public separation for the family.

Reason for Absence Not Disclosed

The spokesperson offered no explanation for why Meghan, Archie, and Lilibet are staying behind. The Invictus Games, founded by Harry in 2014, are scheduled to take place in Düsseldorf, Germany, from September 9 to 16, 2026. Harry has been a central figure at every previous edition, often accompanied by his wife.

This is the first time Meghan has missed the games since the couple married in 2018. She attended the 2023 event in The Hague and the 2025 edition in Orlando, Florida, where she cheered on competitors and presented medals.

Harry's Solo Role at the Games

Prince Harry will still participate in opening and closing ceremonies, visit with athletes, and deliver speeches. The Invictus Games Foundation confirmed that Harry's schedule remains unchanged. The Duke has described the games as a "labor of love" and a key part of his post-royal work.

Royal commentators note that the absence could be due to scheduling conflicts or a desire to keep the children out of the public eye. Meghan has been focusing on her lifestyle brand, American Riviera Orchard, and a new podcast deal with Lemonada Media.

Previous Family Appearances

Meghan and Harry have often brought Archie and Lilibet to public events, including the 2022 Platinum Jubilee and the 2024 Invictus Games in Orlando. The children have been seen in the stands and at athlete meet-and-greets. Their absence this year has sparked speculation about the couple's relationship, though sources close to the family insist they are united.

The Invictus Games bring together more than 500 competitors from 21 nations. Harry is expected to arrive in Germany on September 7.
