Fowlie disclosed that he and his family believe Downer's phone and social media accounts were compromised in the weeks leading up to her disappearance. He stated that the individual in possession of her phone used it to conceal her absence, solicit money, and create a false narrative that she was voluntarily going off the grid. By sharing this information, Fowlie hopes to counteract the efforts of whoever is responsible to erase her memory.
In his post, Fowlie emphasized his desire to amplify his sister's story and highlight that she was a beautiful person who mattered in this world. He also expressed hope that someone with knowledge of the case might come forward, as his sister can no longer advocate for herself.

Fowlie first reported his sister's disappearance on Instagram on December 22, sharing a missing person poster and urging the public to provide any information to the police. Subsequent posts provided further details, including that Downer was last seen in Koreatown, with her last communication on November 26 and last social media activity on December 15.
