Military Museums in Calgary Showcase Tanks for Father's Day

Visitors were given tours of several Canadian tanks on Sunday as part of a Father's Day event at The Military Museums in Calgary. The event allowed families to explore historic military vehicles up close, with staff providing detailed explanations of each tank's role in Canadian military history.

Tank Tours Draw Crowds

The museum, located in southwest Calgary, opened its vehicle collection to the public for the special occasion. Among the tanks on display were the Leopard 1, a main battle tank used by the Canadian Army from the 1970s to the 2000s, and the Ram tank, a Canadian-designed cruiser tank from World War II. According to museum officials, the event aimed to engage visitors with interactive learning about Canada's armored warfare heritage.

“It’s a great way to spend Father’s Day—seeing history come to life,” said a museum spokesperson. The tours were led by veteran volunteers who shared personal anecdotes and technical details about the vehicles.

Community Response

The event attracted families from across the city, with children and adults alike climbing into the driver's seats and examining the tanks' interiors. The museum also offered guided tours of its indoor exhibits, including artifacts from World War I and II, peacekeeping missions, and modern operations. “We wanted to give dads and their families a unique experience,” the spokesperson added.

The Military Museums, which house the collections of several regimental museums, plan to host similar events throughout the summer. The tank tours were free with regular admission, and the museum reported a significant increase in attendance compared to previous Father's Day weekends.
