Tecumseh Reopens Lakewood Park South with New Amenities

The Town of Tecumseh has officially reopened Lakewood Park South after a year-long construction project, unveiling a host of new amenities for the community. The park reopened to the public on June 7, featuring a splash pad, bocce ball courts, an amphitheatre, a pedestrian bridge, an event plaza, a pavilion, expanded seating areas, and a firepit. Additionally, a dedicated space for community gatherings and food services has been included.

Community Investment

“Our parks and public spaces are some of Tecumseh’s greatest assets. This is where community is built,” said Mayor Gary McNamara in a news release. He emphasized that the investment in Lakewood Park South creates new opportunities for recreation and community events, enhancing the quality of life for residents and attracting visitors from across the region.

Funding and Future Plans

More than $3.8 million has been invested in the park improvements, with $2 million coming from the Canada Community-Building Fund. The project is part of the town’s 2025-2029 Capital Works Plan, which aims to upgrade and maintain existing parks and facilities throughout the area.

The event marked the culmination of extensive renovations that included the construction of an all-season washroom and the installation of decorative water sprinklers.
