Early Wednesday morning, a devastating three-alarm fire swept through the building that once housed the Toronto Humber Yacht Club in Etobicoke. The blaze broke out around 4:50 a.m. near Humber Valley Rd. and Glenaden Ave. E., prompting a swift response from emergency crews.
Toronto Police reported the active fire on the social media platform X. Firefighters arrived to find the structure fully engulfed in flames. By approximately 6:30 a.m., Toronto Fire Services announced that the bulk of the fire had been knocked down, according to a post on social media.
Massive Response to Contain Blaze
The fire initially prompted a two-alarm response but quickly escalated to three alarms as additional crews, equipment, and water supplies were mobilized. Close to 100 firefighters and 27 fire trucks were dispatched to the scene to bring the inferno under control, as reported by CP24.
Toronto Fire Services confirmed that no injuries were reported in connection with the incident. Deputy Chief Fitzgerald was scheduled to provide an update to the media from the scene at 7:30 a.m.
Background on the Yacht Club
The Toronto Humber Yacht Club had been the subject of controversy in recent years. Toronto City Council recently voted to terminate the club's lease due to ongoing complaints and environmental concerns. The fire occurred just days after the lease was officially ended.
Investigation Underway
The Office of the Fire Marshal has been contacted and will lead the investigation into the cause of the blaze. Authorities are working to determine the origin of the fire and assess the extent of the damage.
