Man, 30, charged with sexually assaulting multiple women on TTC

Toronto police have charged a 30-year-old man with sexually assaulting multiple women on the TTC in the city's downtown core, and investigators are concerned there may be more victims.

Details of the alleged assaults

Police say officers responded to a call for a sexual assault in the downtown area shortly before 1 p.m. on Thursday, July 2, 2026. According to a police statement released Saturday, the accused allegedly sexually assaulted multiple adult female victims between 8 a.m. and 12 p.m. while on public transit.

The alleged incidents occurred on TTC vehicles in the downtown core, though police have not specified which routes or modes of transit—buses, streetcars, or subways—were involved. All of the alleged victims were strangers to the accused, and none suffered physical injuries, police said.

Charges and arrest

Ashraful Alam, of Toronto, was arrested and charged with five counts of sexual assault and one count of obstructing a peace officer. Police alleged that the accused obstructed police while performing their duties but provided no further details. Alam was scheduled to appear in court for a bail hearing on Friday.

Appeal for additional victims

Investigators are appealing for any additional victims or witnesses to come forward. They have released images of the accused, who is described as 5-foot-7 to 5-foot-10, with a medium build, black shaggy hair, and a black beard. At the time of the alleged incidents, he was wearing a dark long-sleeved shirt, beige shorts, and dark Birkenstock-style sandals.
