Antonio Rodriguez Raymundo-Diego, 20, was arrested on charges of aggravated animal cruelty and failing to provide an animal with enough food and water, according to the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office. The charges stem from a discovery of a severely neglected pig on his property.
Neglect Discovered
Deputies responded to a complaint and found the pig in deplorable condition, emaciated and without access to adequate food or water. The animal was immediately seized and taken for veterinary care.
Raymundo-Diego was booked into the Palm Beach County Jail. It is unclear if he has retained an attorney or entered a plea.
Legal Consequences
Aggravated animal cruelty is a third-degree felony in Florida, punishable by up to five years in prison and a $10,000 fine. The charge of failing to provide food and water is a first-degree misdemeanor.
The case has drawn attention from animal welfare advocates, who emphasize the importance of reporting suspected neglect. The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office encourages the public to report animal cruelty through their non-emergency line.
