A Regina man is handing out 'Next to Kin' tags around town to help people locate lost loved ones in crowded spaces. The tags contain the contact information of the person who has been lost, and can also be used for dogs.
How the tags work
The tags are designed to be worn or carried by individuals, especially children or seniors, so that if they become separated from their group, others can quickly identify who they are and how to reach their family. The idea came from Gord Fiessel, who submitted a photo of the tags.
Fiessel was inspired after losing his son at a large event. He realized that having a simple, accessible way to share contact details could prevent panic and speed up reunions. The tags are waterproof and durable, suitable for outdoor use.
Community response
So far, the tags have been well received in Regina. Fiessel has been distributing them at community centers, schools, and public gatherings. He hopes the initiative will spread to other cities. According to Fiessel, the tags are especially useful for families with young children or elderly relatives who may wander off.
“It’s a simple idea but it can make a huge difference in an emergency,” Fiessel said. “I just want to help people stay safe.”
