Community impact

Neighbors expressed shock at the violence, describing the couple as quiet and private. The case has drawn attention to domestic violence issues in the South Asian community. According to statistics, one in three women in Canada experiences intimate partner violence in their lifetime.

“This is a tragic reminder of the need for support services for victims of domestic abuse,” said a spokesperson for the B.C. Women's Hospital. The conviction brings a measure of closure, but the family continues to grieve.
