Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) gave a pointed response on Tuesday to Vice President JD Vance's prediction that she would be the frontrunner for the 2028 Democratic presidential nomination. During an interview on 'The Michael Knowles Show' released Tuesday, Vance stated, 'I think it’s got to be AOC. I know that’s probably conventional wisdom.'
Ocasio-Cortez's Reaction
When asked by reporters outside the Capitol about Vance's comments, Ocasio-Cortez took a subtle dig at the vice president while remaining noncommittal about her own 2028 prospects. 'I mean, you know, I hope he (Vance) is,' she said. A reporter quickly sought clarification as she walked away: 'That he’s the Republican nominee?' 'Yeah,' Ocasio-Cortez responded.
Current Polling Landscape
Although Ocasio-Cortez has been touted by some voters as a potential candidate, she has not officially announced any such plans. Polling averages compiled by 270ToWin place her fourth among potential Democratic contenders, behind former Vice President Kamala Harris, California Gov. Gavin Newsom, and former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg. Harris, the 2024 Democratic nominee, currently leads the pack according to those averages. None of these candidates have formally declared their candidacy for 2028.
