Mother Charged in Deaths of Toddler Twins
An Idaho mother who claimed her toddler twins died after receiving vaccinations has been charged with murder, according to court documents released July 6, 2026. Andrea Shaw, of Payette, Idaho, was arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of her 18-month-old twins, a boy and a girl, who died in May 2026.
Shaw initially told authorities that the twins died shortly after being vaccinated at a local clinic, leading to an investigation by the Payette County Sheriff's Office and the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare. However, autopsies and further investigation revealed that the children died from asphyxiation, and the cause of death was ruled homicide.
Details of the Case
According to court records, Shaw's twins were found unresponsive in their home on May 15, 2026. Emergency responders attempted CPR but were unable to revive them. Shaw initially claimed that the children had been vaccinated the day before and had shown signs of distress, including fever and lethargy.
However, investigators found inconsistencies in Shaw's account. A subsequent search of the home uncovered evidence suggesting the children had been suffocated. The Payette County Coroner's office determined the cause of death as positional asphyxia, and the manner of death was ruled homicide.
Prosecutors allege that Shaw intentionally caused the deaths of her children. During a court hearing on July 2, 2026, Shaw appeared via video from the Payette County Jail, where she is being held without bond. Her attorney has not yet commented on the charges.
Community and Legal Impact
The case has sparked widespread attention, particularly among anti-vaccination groups who had initially seized on Shaw's claims as evidence of vaccine dangers. Health officials have emphasized that there is no evidence linking the deaths to vaccinations. Dr. James Taylor, a pediatrician at St. Luke's Health System in Boise, stated, "Vaccines are safe and do not cause deaths like these. It's tragic when misinformation spreads, but the facts in this case are clear."
Shaw faces life in prison if convicted. Her next court appearance is scheduled for August 15, 2026. The case continues to be investigated by the Payette County Sheriff's Office.
