A child under eight years old has died after falling from a window of an apartment building on Laurier Avenue East in Ottawa on Monday evening, police confirmed Tuesday.

Emergency services were called to 50 Laurier Ave. E at approximately 6:50 p.m. on April 27. Paramedics found the child outside the building with injuries consistent with a fall from a significant height. The child was transported to hospital in life-threatening condition.

Despite the efforts of first responders and medical staff, the child succumbed to their injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital, according to a police spokesperson.
