P.E.I. RCMP Arrest Man on E-Bike for Impaired Driving

Prince Edward Island RCMP arrested a man operating an e-bike while impaired by alcohol on July 2, 2026. The arrest occurred in the community of Stratford, P.E.I., after police received a report of a suspicious person on an e-bike.

Details of the Incident

According to RCMP Cpl. Gavin Moore, officers responded to the area around 9:30 p.m. After locating the man, they observed signs of impairment and conducted a roadside sobriety test. The man failed the test and was taken into custody. He was later released on a promise to appear in court, where he faces charges of impaired operation of a conveyance.

“This serves as a reminder that impaired driving laws apply to all motorized vehicles, including e-bikes,” Moore said. “Operating any vehicle while impaired by alcohol or drugs is dangerous and illegal.”

Legal Implications

Under Canada’s Criminal Code, an e-bike is considered a motor vehicle, and the same impaired driving laws that apply to cars and trucks also apply to e-bikes. Penalties can include fines, license suspensions, and even jail time.

The RCMP did not release the man’s name, as charges have not yet been proven in court. The investigation is ongoing.
