Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre Launches U.S. Tour to Champion Canadian Industries

Following recent international visits to the United Kingdom and Germany, Conservative Party Leader Pierre Poilievre is embarking on a significant weeklong tour of the United States. The tour, announced by the Opposition Leader's Office, aims to advocate for Canada's auto and energy sectors while strengthening bilateral relationships.

Itinerary Focuses on Key Economic Hubs

Poilievre's journey begins this Friday in Detroit, Michigan, where he will engage with auto industry leaders and elected officials. According to the Conservative Party's itinerary, his mission there is to fight for an integrated North American auto sector and tariff-free trade that protects Canadian jobs.

On Sunday, the opposition leader will briefly return to Canada for a press conference in Windsor, Ontario, strategically located just across the Detroit River. This stopover serves as a bridge between his U.S. engagements, highlighting the cross-border nature of the issues at hand.

Advocating for Energy and Trade in Texas and Beyond

The tour continues on Monday with a visit to an energy facility in Houston, Texas, followed by meetings with energy executives. Poilievre will then travel to Austin, the state capital, to confer with state officials and leaders from energy, agriculture, and local business sectors. His objective is to advocate for Canadian energy and trade to the benefit of both our countries.

On Thursday, Poilievre will conclude his trip in New York City, delivering a keynote speech on Canada-U.S. relations. While specific timing and venues were not disclosed by his office, the itinerary emphasizes that all travel costs for overseas trips are covered by the Conservative Party of Canada.

Poilievre's Message: Free Trade as a Mutual Win

In a social media video released on Wednesday, Poilievre articulated his purpose: travelling to the United States to stand up for Canadian workers and fight for tariff-free access to our closest neighbour and the world's largest economy. He stressed that Canada must continue to demonstrate how free trade benefits both nations, making them stronger, safer and richer.

This U.S. venture follows Conservative MP Jamil Jivani's visit to Washington last month, where he discussed the Canada-U.S.-Mexico free trade agreement with figures like U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and President Donald Trump. Jivani reported positive conversations with entities such as General Motors and the American Automotive Policy Council, underscoring ongoing efforts to bolster North American economic ties.

Poilievre's tour underscores a proactive approach to international diplomacy, focusing on critical industries that drive Canada's economy. By leveraging relationships across the border, he aims to secure favorable trade conditions and promote Canadian resources on the global stage.
