Trump Reacts to Supreme Court Rulings on Power and Voting

President Donald Trump took to social media on Monday to both celebrate and seethe over the Supreme Court’s rulings, which handed him expanded power over the executive branch but blocked a key Republican voting initiative.

Losses on Carroll and Mail-In Ballots

Before releasing any formal opinions on Monday, the court handed Trump a loss when it declined to hear his appeal of a 2023 verdict that awarded $5 million to E. Jean Carroll, who accused the president of sexual abuse and defamation. “I will continue the fight against this Weaponization and Lawfare Case against me, including the ridiculous claim of Defamation, with all of my power and strength,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

In its first decision of the day, the court ruled against the president’s attempt to discount late mail-in ballots in Mississippi. In response, Trump focused on attacking Senate Republicans who have failed to pass his SAVE America Act, which would outlaw mail-in ballots except in situations such as illness or military deployment. The act would also require voters to provide a photo ID and proof of citizenship.

Attack on Republicans and SAVE America Act

“In light of the tremendous loss in the Supreme Court today concerning Voter’s Rights, and the fact that ‘people’s’ votes are allowed to be counted LONG AFTER an Election is over, it is more important than ever to pass THE SAVE AMERICA ACT,” he wrote on Truth Social. “In a time when there is a powerful Communist Movement taking place in our Country, one more dangerous than World War I, World War II, Pearl Harbor, or September 11th, all Dumocrats, and our five Republican Senate Hold Outs, Lisa Murkowski, Susan Collins, Thom Tillis, Bill Cassidy, and Mitch McConnell must vote to SAVE OUR COUNTRY.”

Downplaying the Cook Ruling

Trump also attempted to downplay the court’s ruling blocking his efforts to fire Federal Reserve Board Governor Lisa Cook. In a 5-4 decision, the court ruled Trump could not fire Cook based solely on made-up charges of mortgage fraud, sending the case back to a lower court. “The Cook Lawsuit, having to do with her suitability in sitting on the Board of the Federal Reserve, was sent back by the Supreme Court on a strictly procedural basis,” he wrote. “We will take appropriate action immediately to make sure that someone who has committed wrongdoing will not be making vital decisions concerning the Welfare of the United States of America!”

Major Win on Executive Power

Trump was also handed a major win by the court, which ruled he can fire any regulatory agency member for any reason — undoing 90 years of judicial precedent. In a Truth Social post, Trump wrote it was “an honor” to receive the ruling. “This Decision was long sought by United States Presidents, dating all the way back to the 1930s,” he wrote. “It is such an Honor to be the sitting President who won this Historic and Unprecedented Ruling, one of the most important ever given with respect to Presidential Powers.”

In a separate post half-an-hour later, Trump celebrated the decision again, writing, “To show the importance of the Slaughter Case, 90 years of precedent has been COMPLETELY AND UNEQUIVOCALLY OVERRULED, greatly increasing Presidential Power at a time when it is most needed!”
