Quebec City police are investigating after a woman was found dead in a wooded area, authorities confirmed Friday.
Body Discovered in Wooded Area
The Service de police de la Ville de Québec (SPVQ) said officers responded to a report of a deceased person in a wooded sector of the city. The woman's body was located on Thursday evening, according to a police spokesperson.
No cause of death has been determined, and an autopsy is scheduled. Police have not released the woman's identity, pending notification of next of kin.
Investigation Underway
Investigators are treating the case as suspicious, but have not classified it as a homicide at this stage. The SPVQ major crimes unit is leading the investigation.
Police are canvassing the area for witnesses and reviewing any available surveillance footage. They are asking anyone with information to come forward.
The discovery comes as Quebec City experiences a heat wave, with temperatures exceeding 30°C. More than 50,000 Hydro-Quebec clients were without power due to the heat, but it is unclear if the outage is related to the incident.
