Deadly Fire at Abbotsford Homeless Camp: One Dead, One Arrested

A suspicious fire at the Peardonville homeless encampment in Abbotsford, British Columbia, has left one man dead and another in custody. The Abbotsford Police Department confirmed the incident occurred on Friday night, April 24, 2026.

Incident Details

Shortly after 6 p.m., patrol officers responded to reports of a fire at the encampment located on South Fraser Way. Firefighters arrived shortly after and extinguished the blaze in a single wooden structure, where they discovered the body of a deceased man.

Police Investigation

Authorities have classified the incident as a homicide. In a news release, Abbotsford Police stated, "Further investigation has confirmed this incident to be a homicide." Officers arrested one man in connection with the deadly fire. Police emphasized that this was an isolated and targeted incident and that the public is not at risk.
