Former Waitress Provides Emotional Testimony in Frank Stronach Sexual Assault Trial

A former waitress who worked at a Toronto nightclub owned by business magnate Frank Stronach delivered vivid and emotional testimony during his sexual assault trial, alleging that the billionaire groped and kissed her without consent in his waterfront apartment during the 1980s. The woman, now in her sixties, appeared as the second of seven women accusing Stronach of unwanted sexual aggression in a case that has drawn significant public attention.

Unexpected Dinner Invitation Leads to Uncomfortable Encounter

The witness recounted that the incident occurred during the winter of 1983 or 1984, when she was approximately 20 or 21 years old and Stronach was around 50 or 51. She explained that Stronach had invited her to dinner under the pretense of discussing why she had been terminated from her position at his nightclub. Initially, she described him as polite during the meal, which created a false sense of security.

"I felt like, you know, he was being like a fatherly image," she testified before Ontario Superior Court Judge Anne Molloy. "I didn't think that I would have a problem."

After dinner concluded, Stronach informed her that his driver would take her home but suggested first stopping by his nearby harbourfront apartment to view the scenery. The witness described this invitation as awkward and uncomfortable, yet she reluctantly agreed due to his respectful demeanor during their meal.

Atmosphere Shifts Dramatically in Condominium Setting

Upon arriving at Stronach's high-rise condominium, which featured expansive windows overlooking the waterfront and night sky, the woman immediately sensed a change in atmosphere. She testified that her anxiety escalated as Stronach became increasingly friendly and flirtatious, removing her coat and offering her a drink, which she declined.

"As soon as I got in, the hair on my neck went up and my heart was pounding," she stated emotionally. "It's not like he said or did anything, but I was afraid. I felt the nicer he was, the more afraid I became because, as a woman, it was just a vibe that made me very uncomfortable."

The witness emphasized that Stronach's intentions had clearly shifted from their dinner conversation, noting that "I didn't get that fatherly vibe anymore" and instead felt pressured, as if "he was now under the impression that I owed him a favour."

Physical Assault Allegations and Attempted Escape

When she expressed her desire to leave, Stronach retrieved her coat and assisted her with putting it on. However, as she turned to depart, he allegedly grabbed her by the lapels, arms, or shoulders and leaned in to kiss her on both cheeks in what she described as a European-style greeting. She testified that she pulled back instinctively, finding herself pressed against the wall as he continued to touch her inappropriately.

"He was going up and down and asking me to stay," she recounted, visibly struggling to contain her emotions on the stand. "He wasn't ready for me to leave yet. If I wasn't 100 percent sure before I got to the door, I knew exactly why he wanted me to stay. Sex. He wanted to be intimate."

Judge Molloy offered the witness a break during her testimony, but the woman insisted on continuing, quietly stating, "I want to get this over with." The judge encouraged her to take deep breaths and proceed at her own pace.

Cross-Examination Focuses on Police Statements

During cross-examination, Stronach's defense lawyer questioned the witness about previous statements she made to police, suggesting that she had initially indicated she should only serve as a witness rather than a complainant in the trial. This line of questioning aimed to scrutinize the consistency and credibility of her allegations, though the witness maintained her account of the events throughout the proceedings.

The trial continues as additional accusers are expected to testify, with Stronach facing multiple charges related to sexual assault allegations spanning several decades. The case highlights ongoing legal battles involving high-profile figures and allegations of historical misconduct, drawing attention to the complexities of prosecuting such cases years after the alleged incidents occurred.
