Two teenagers from Milton have been formally charged in connection with a series of violent carjackings that unfolded across Halton Region, according to authorities. The incidents, which occurred on March 27, involved three separate carjackings in Milton and Burlington, leaving one victim with serious injuries.
Details of the Carjacking Spree
Halton Regional Police reported that the spree began at approximately 3:50 p.m. in the Derry Road and Farmstead Drive area of Milton. Two masked males approached a driver, forcibly removed them from their vehicle, and fled toward Burlington in the stolen car.
Over the next hour, two additional carjackings took place in Burlington. The first occurred around 4:40 p.m. near Britannia Road and Walkers Line, followed by a second incident minutes later in the Cedar Springs Road and Britannia Road area. Police managed to locate one suspect at the scene of the first Burlington carjacking and apprehended the second later that evening.
Charges and Legal Proceedings
All three drivers were forcibly removed from their vehicles during the incidents. One man sustained serious injuries, though no weapons were seen or used. The stolen vehicles have since been recovered by authorities.
A 17-year-old boy faces charges of robbery, theft of a motor vehicle with violence, and disguise with intent. A second 17-year-old boy has been charged with three counts each of robbery, theft of a motor vehicle with violence, and disguise with intent, along with one count of dangerous operation causing bodily harm. Under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, the identities of the accused cannot be disclosed.
York Regional Police Investigations
In a separate but related development, York Regional Police are issuing warnings to residents following a pair of incidents involving break-and-enter scouting. Cameras and battery packs, disguised with camouflage, were discovered on residential properties in Vaughan. These devices were strategically placed near trees and bushes to record homeowners' routines, enabling suspects to scout the properties before committing break-and-enters.
Authorities are urging homeowners to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity. Additionally, police are seeking information after a shooting at a home in Georgina on Sunday, where a house and vehicle were damaged by gunfire. No injuries were reported, and investigators believe the house was the intended target, with no ongoing threat to public safety.
Commercial Robberies Under Scrutiny
York Regional Police are also investigating seven recent commercial robberies across the region. The incidents include a robbery at a gas station in Markham on Monday, where a male suspect made threats and demanded cash before fleeing with money. Six additional robberies with a similar suspect description have been reported in various locations, including Richmond Hill and Vaughan.
The suspect is described as approximately 6 feet tall with a thin build, last seen wearing a grey tuque, dark shirt with a black long sleeve underneath, black pants, gloves, and grey footwear, using a white shirt as a mask. Police are appealing to the public for any dashcam footage or witness accounts to aid in the investigations.
