Hamilton Police Issue Public Appeal in Cold Case of Teen Murdered in 2025
Homicide detectives in Hamilton are intensifying their efforts to solve the tragic murder of a teenage boy that occurred over a year ago, urging anyone with information to come forward. The case remains open with no arrests, highlighting the challenges in bringing justice for the young victim.
Details of the Fatal Incident
On the early morning of Thursday, March 6, 2025, at approximately 4:20 a.m., 16-year-old Faizaan Awan was shot to death on a semi-rural road in Stoney Creek. He never had the chance to celebrate his 17th birthday, as his life was cut short in what police describe as a targeted assassination.
Authorities received multiple 911 calls reporting a shooting near Highway 8 and Fruitland Road. Upon arrival, officers found two vehicles involved in a collision: a white Kia sedan and a red Acura SUV. Awan, who was driving the Acura, suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was rushed to a hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Investigation Reveals Chase and Multiple Vehicles
Investigators have determined that Awan, a resident of York Region, was pursued for several kilometres before the shooting occurred. The reason for his presence in Stoney Creek at that hour remains unclear, adding to the mystery of the case.
Police believe multiple vehicles were involved in the chase. In addition to the Acura and Kia found at the scene, a silver Infiniti, suspected to be stolen and part of the pursuit, was later recovered in the area. Other vehicles connected to the incident are still outstanding.
Two other individuals were inside the Acura during the shooting. One sustained a minor gunshot wound and sought medical treatment later, while both have been interviewed by detectives. Despite these leads, the case has stalled.
Ongoing Efforts and Public Appeal
Over the past year, homicide detectives have meticulously reviewed video footage and interviewed witnesses. They suspect that multiple firearms were used in the attack, but none have been recovered. The investigation underscores the belief that there are people with crucial information who have yet to step forward.
In 2025, Hamilton recorded seven murders, with arrests made in all cases except for Awan's. This marks a significant decrease from the record-high 20 murders in 2021, yet the unsolved nature of this teen's death weighs heavily on the community.
