The City of London, Ontario, will begin enforcing its fireworks bylaw as of July 1, 2026, according to a statement from city officials. The bylaw restricts the use of fireworks to specific times and locations, with penalties for non-compliance.
What the Bylaw Covers
The regulations prohibit the use of fireworks on public property without a permit, and limit private fireworks to Canada Day and Victoria Day weekends. On those days, fireworks are permitted only between dusk and 11 p.m. The city also bans the sale of fireworks to anyone under 18.
Enforcement and Penalties
City bylaw officers will patrol neighborhoods and respond to complaints. Fines for violating the bylaw start at $250 and can reach up to $5,000 for repeated offenses. "We want everyone to enjoy the holiday safely," said a city spokesperson. "By following the rules, residents can prevent injuries and disturbances."
Public Safety Concerns
The enforcement comes amid concerns about fire risk and noise complaints. In 2025, London Fire Department responded to 15 fireworks-related incidents, including two structure fires. The city also reminds residents to keep pets indoors during fireworks displays.
