Cleanup continued on Friday, July 3, after the Canada Day storms, with the City of Ottawa reporting that about 2,000 basements in the national capital had experienced flooding.
Emergency Response and Traffic Signals
In a memo to city council, the office of Ryan Perrault, general manager of Emergency and Protective Services, said Ottawa Fire Services had responded to more than 700 calls related to electrical hazards, downed power lines, and other storm-related emergencies. The city noted that most of the approximately 100 traffic signal issues had been resolved by Friday afternoon.
Downed Trees and Forestry Services
Downed trees were another major problem following the severe weather on July 1. According to Perrault’s office, Forestry Services had received more than 150 requests for hazardous and fallen trees and was continuing to respond to them.
Ongoing Coordination
“The City’s Emergency Coordination Centre remains activated, and we continue to operate in Enhanced Operations to coordinate recovery efforts across City departments and partner agencies,” the memo stated.
